I found his talk very interesting because it was concerning art nowadays and what he believes that an artist should be focusing on at this point in time. He used the metaphores of a train to describe modernism ( a train pushing ahead, making changes, inventing new ways), postmodernism (a still train looking at the  past, time of the revivals) and nowadays, alter modernity ( a train going into little routes, sustainable cultural development, a global concept exploring a very small, specific concept).

He made me think about where my project is going, the fact that I am looking at the past doesn’t mean that I am stuck on postmodernism.  He spoke about globalization and about leaving the concept of local identity behind and finding a new identity on migration, on displacement. These concepts are very interesting. My project is not about my local identity, my endeavor may be a bit archeological but my archeology is not an imitation of what has already taken place. I am observing a phenomena that changed the western world first and then its ripples expanded to the rest of the world creating our modern society. I therefore think it is quite a global subject. I am also approaching my subject with modern digital tools and I wish to convey my work in a contemporary context.

Looking at the past is my source, I am going to use the findings to create my own work with its unique view and interpratation. So I guess I would like to argue that I am taking my own train into my chosen little route instead of launching on a still train.
